How much does an excursion in Tunisia cost?

Count on 70 € to 120 € for a full day in a private car for up to four people from Hammamet, and 45 € for a half day. The price covers the vehicle, so it stays the same whether you are one traveller or four. Pick where you are staying and how many of you there are, and every route below updates.

Staying in

Group size

Three things move the price: distance (Dougga is two and a half hours inland, Friguia Park thirty minutes), where you are picked up, and how many seats you need. The season does not. Our rates are the same on a Tuesday in January and a Saturday in August.

Tunisia excursion prices by trip and pickup city

Hammamet is the cheapest place to start, because it sits in the middle of our routes. From Sousse and Port El Kantaoui, most trips cost 10 € to 50 € more and the Sahel day costs the same. From Tunis, the Grand Tunis day gets 10 € cheaper and everything else costs more.

Why does Cap Bon cost 40 € more from Sousse? The peninsula lies north of Hammamet, so a Sousse pickup adds the motorway stretch between Sousse and Hammamet, out in the morning and back in the evening. The supplement pays for that fuel and that driver time, nothing else.

How does group size change the price per person?

The bigger the group, the less each person pays. Twelve people on the Grand Tunis day pay 150 € in total from Hammamet, which is 12.50 € each, against 20 € each for a car of four. The table shows each bracket and the price per head when every seat is taken.

What does a family of five pay?

A family of five needs the 4 to 6 people bracket. For El Jem and Kairouan from Hammamet that is 120 €, or 24 € per person. The same family on a hotel coach at 50 € a seat would pay 250 €, more than twice as much, before a single entry ticket.

Why do the group brackets overlap?

Because the vehicle depends on luggage and ages as much as on headcount. Four adults fit in a saloon car, but four adults with two children and a pushchair need a minivan. Tell us who is travelling and we place you in the right bracket, so you never pay for seats you do not use.

Is a private driver cheaper than a coach tour?

From two people, usually yes, or about the same. Hotel desk coaches charge per seat, so a couple on the El Jem and Kairouan coach at 45 € to 65 € each pays 90 € to 130 €, while a private car costs 90 € for the whole day.

A coach still makes sense if you travel alone and enjoy company, or if the tour bundles a guide and lunch you would have paid for anyway. For everyone else, the maths favours the car. You also skip the hour spent collecting passengers from other hotels, which on a coach day is often the difference between walking the Kairouan medina and only driving past it.

What costs extra on top of the excursion price?

Entry tickets, lunch and tips. Our price includes the car, the driver, fuel, tolls and parking, and nothing is added on the day. Budget the rest in dinars, because ticket offices and small restaurants rarely take cards or euros.

Typical extra costs per person in 2026. One euro is about 3.4 dinars.

How much are entry tickets in 2026?

Since 1 April 2026, foreign visitors pay 20 dinars at the major state sites such as El Jem, Carthage, Kairouan and Dougga, and 30 dinars at the Bardo Museum. A second rise to 30 dinars per major site is planned for January 2027, according to the new fee grid reported by Business News. Students with an international student card pay 2 dinars. Every gate takes cash only.

What does a full day really cost for four adults?

Here is a real El Jem and Kairouan day from Hammamet for four adults, with every cost counted:

ItemTotal for fourPer person
Private car and driver90 €22.50 €
Entry tickets, 2 sites at 20 dinars160 dinars, about 47 €about 12 €
Lunch in Kairouan140 dinars, about 41 €about 10 €
Water, coffee and makroudh40 dinars, about 12 €about 3 €
Totalabout 190 €about 48 €

That is less than many coach seats cost before tickets and lunch. The car is the only fixed line of the bill, so the more of you share it, the lower the last line goes.

Do excursion prices change with the season?

Ours do not. The price you see for a January weekday is the price for an August weekend. What changes with the season is demand, and with it how far ahead you should book.

  • July and August: the busiest weeks. Book 3 to 5 days ahead, and earlier for groups of 8 to 12 that need a minibus.
  • April to June, September and October: the best weather for the inland sites, and a car is usually free for the next day.
  • November to March: quiet roads and empty sites. El Jem closes at 17:00 in winter, and our full days still fit with time to spare.
  • Ramadan: prices stay the same, but some sites close earlier and fewer restaurants open at lunch. We adjust the timetable for you.

Coach operators and online marketplaces work differently. Their prices per seat often climb 10 to 20% in high summer, and the cheapest departures sell out first. If you compare prices in July, compare like for like.

How do you avoid overpaying for a Tunisia excursion?

Ask four questions before you pay anything: is the price per person or per vehicle, what exactly is included, how many shop stops are planned, and when do you pay. An honest seller answers all four in one message.

  1. Per person or per vehicle? A "35 € excursion" for four people is 140 €. Always multiply before you compare.
  2. Are tickets and lunch included? A tour that looks 20 € cheaper may leave 40 dinars of tickets per person to pay at the gate.
  3. How many shop stops? Carpet, pottery and perfume stops pay a commission to the organiser and can eat an hour of your visit. We make none unless you ask.
  4. Deposit or payment on the day? Paying the full amount online to a seller you cannot check is the biggest risk. With us you pay the driver at the end of the day, in dinars or euros.
  5. Is the taxi price written down? Agree the full-day price, the stops and the waiting time before you get in, ideally in a message.

How much do Sahara and multi-day tours cost?

A 2-day Sahara coach tour from Hammamet or Sousse costs about 110 € to 170 € per person, with a night in a hotel in Douz or Tozeur. A 3-day tour costs about 180 € to 280 €. A private 4x4 with a driver for two days costs around 450 € to 650 € per vehicle.

We do not sell the Sahara as a day trip: Douz is about six hours from the coast each way, so a one-day version spends twelve hours on the road. Our Southern Tunisia and Sahara guide explains how to plan it properly, and the Tunisia itinerary for 3, 5 or 7 days shows how to fit day trips around it.

How do you book at these prices?

Use the form at the top of this page. Pick the trip, your pickup city, the date and your group, and the total shows before you send anything. We confirm within two hours with the name of your driver, and the confirmed price is the final price.

  1. Choose the day trip and your pickup city.
  2. Pick a date and your group size. The price updates as you go.
  3. Leave your name, phone number and hotel. No card, no deposit.
  4. Meet your driver at reception at 08:00 and pay at the end of the day.

Want the details of one route first? Each trip has its own page with a map and a price grid, for example El Jem and Kairouan, and our Kairouan and El Jem day trip guide covers the visit hour by hour.

Tunisia excursion prices: your questions

How much is an excursion in Tunisia per person?

With a private driver, it depends on how many of you share the car. For four people from Hammamet, the cost per person runs from about 11 € for Friguia Park to 30 € for Dougga. Coach tours sold at hotels cost about 40 € to 65 € per person. Entry tickets come on top.

Is it cheaper to book Tunisia excursions at the hotel or online?

Usually online, especially for private trips. Hotel desks sell coach seats per person, with a commission built into each seat. Booking online lets you compare prices per vehicle, see what is included and choose a private car, which costs the same or less from two people upward.

Do you pay for excursions in Tunisia in euros or dinars?

Both work for the excursion itself: with us you pay the driver at the end of the day, in dinars or euros. Entry tickets, lunch and small purchases are paid in dinars, in cash, so withdraw some at an ATM before the day. One euro is worth about 3.4 dinars.

What is the cheapest excursion in Tunisia?

From Hammamet, the Friguia Park safari at 45 € per vehicle for up to four people, a half day that ends by 12:30. The cheapest full day is the Zaghouan and Berber village trip at 70 €, which also has the lowest ticket costs, around 8 dinars at the Temple of Waters.

Should you tip the driver on a Tunisia excursion?

It is welcome but never expected. Most guests leave 10 to 20 dinars, or about 5 €, for the car after a full day they enjoyed. The tip is not part of our price, and no driver will ask you for one. Guides at the sites expect a tip more often.

Do Tunisia excursion prices include entry tickets?

Private trips almost never do, and ours do not. Since April 2026 the main sites charge foreign visitors 20 dinars each and the Bardo Museum 30 dinars, with a rise planned for January 2027. Coach tours sometimes bundle tickets, so check this before you compare two prices.
